Michigan man walking on I-94 killed by vehicle

On Behalf of | Jan 2, 2019 | auto-pedestrian accidents |

The death of a pedestrian temporarily closed eastbound Interstate 94 in Roseville on Christmas Eve. The preliminary investigation by the Michigan State Police has revealed that the victim was a 23-year-old man from Clinton Township.

A state police lieutenant said that the man had been walking on the shoulder of the freeway near Masonic Road and was hit at 8:35 p.m. Authorities have yet to learn why he was on foot on the interstate after dark. The driver of the vehicle who hit him stopped at the accident scene and has been cooperating with the police investigation.

Emergency response crews closed the eastbound side of the freeway and diverted traffic away from the scene of the accident to the Little Mack Avenue exit. They spent several hours processing the accident and worked until around 12:30 a.m. The police have informed the victim’s family about his death and continue to look for more information about the cause of the accident.

Pedestrians who survive auto-pedestrian accidents often must contend with serious injuries and high medical bills. Pedestrian victims who die might leave surviving family members with lost income and funeral expenses. In either situation, an attorney could take action to pursue a financial settlement from the responsible driver. A lawyer could collect evidence that points to reckless driving, which could support a lawsuit for damages. During an accident investigation, an attorney might have access to resources, like an accident reconstruction specialist whose testimony could strengthen a lawsuit. If pretrial discussions with the responsible party do not result in a settlement, then a lawyer could take the case to court, where a jury could decide the case.
