2 women killed in 2-car accident

At 4:12 p.m. on Dec. 26, sheriff's deputies in Michigan reported to the scene of a collision that killed two people and injured four. The two-car accident took place in Weesaw Township at the intersection of Warren Woods Road and Cleveland Avenue. According to the initial investigation, the crash occurred after one of the vehicles failed to observe a stop sign.

Five people were traveling eastbound on Warren Woods Road in a 2014 Chevrolet sedan. When the 66-year-old driver of the Chevrolet drove past a stop sign at Cleveland Road, his vehicle was hit by a 2001 Dodge pickup truck that was traveling south. The 51-year-old woman who was driving the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries.

When Berrien County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene of the crash, they discovered two deceased victims in the Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet was treated at Memorial Hospital for life-threatening injuries, and a man who was sitting in the back seat of the Chevrolet was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Investigators do not believe that weather or road conditions were factors in the accident, and it was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

When a car accident results in a fatality, the surviving family members of the decedent often will have to deal with funeral expenses and other financial issues in addition to their bereavement. When it can be determined that the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, they may want to meet with an attorney to discuss the advisability of filing a wrongful death lawsuit that would seek compensation from that driver for their losses.
